The bargaining team met with the District on November 7th to continue the discussion on salary. We have not yet come to an agreement, but we are close. As stated in previous communications this is the last year of gap funding. Gap funding refers to the amount of new funding allocated each year to school districts to reduce the difference between their prior year funding and their LCFF (Local Control Funding Formula) target. Therefore, the Association is working to ensure that members receive a fair portion of the funding, but also maintain the fiscal solvency of the District. The MVEA bargaining team has taken the time to study the District’s finances and believes that soon the teams will come to agreement with a rational settlement. Here are a couple of things important to note. We currently have a contract until June 2020. Even though we started briefly discussing salary in the last school year, we are in a better position now to discuss salary because we have financial documents that show the district’s actual financial profile. We are no longer making decisions based on projections. Lastly, when bargaining salary there are several components to consider. Such as our comparability to nearby Districts, 20 and 30-year earnings, and enrollment trends.
Lastly, all updates regarding bargaining have been sent via email. To ensure that you receive the bargaining updates please make sure you email is up to date and on file with the MVEA office.
